Barkley Sound

Subject: Baitrix Strip
"Some time ago, I had the opportunity to try some of your (FIRST CLASS) Baitrix Strip.

Well, I have been doing just that and have had remarkable success. I will try and get some photos for you of the Esq. Anglers Derby at Pt. Renfrew.

My son and I took first prize in both categories .. largest Spring and largest Coho Spring 29lb. and Coho 19.5lb. Both were taken on the chartreuse strip in a super teaser - no flasher. Man what a rush. No matter what, you have a great product.

More Success

"We fished the Baitrix Herring on two rods and cut plug herring on the other two rods. We caught five Coho on the baitrix and three on herring. Fish were all 8-12lbs. Baitrix fished as well as herring and saved having to rebait all day."

Report from Adventures North

Steve MacInnis with a 52 lb. Lake Trout

Steve MacInnis, accomplished Angler and Host/Executive Producer of ADVENTURES NORTH TV series sent us the following report. The report
attests the effectiveness of the Baitrix/Rhys Davis Teaser System for
catching the giant fish of Canada's north.

Subject: Summary - Atlantic Salmon Fishing

Hi Gord,
further to my conversation with Tom on Monday regarding the effectiveness of the Anchovie Teaser setup. I traveled to Kuujjuaq, Quebec and spent 3 days on the water there - fishing in the Kuujjuaq River , which is really a large estuary) which flows into the south basin of Ungava Bay. Primary sportfish in this stretch of the river are Atlantic Salmon, Arctic Char and Searun Brook Trout. We targeted Atlantic Salmon. Basically we trolled with a about a 4 foot snell betweena 1/2 oz beaded line weight and the anchovie teaser, and we did cast the rig when applicable. With over 40 foot tides there is tremendous tidal flow, whirlpools and currents throughout the estuary. Anywhere there were visible current lines, especially where those lines were formed by submerged structures, points and shorelines we found fish. As I started letting out my line on my very first drop, I hooked my first fish - before letting out as far as I would normally. This brought back memories of the first time I offered 'herring' to the Lake Trout in Great Slave Lake - they responded immediately. The 15 or so Atlantic Salmon I personally caught here ranged between 8 and 15 pounds. Judging from the way they hit and how well hooked they were, these fish really wanted the Baitrix Anchovy.

We tried different trolling speeds, and like Lake Trout slow or fast
trolling worked equally well. We caught fish trolling with and against the current, although with the current seemed to be more effective.

Others with us trolled a variety of spoons and did catch fish, but I can confirm the anchovies were the most effective among the lures used during the trip. I did get decent footage of the rig action, rig in the mouth of the ones caught and some other related action shots of the lures in use. So my initial report on Atlantic Salmon is the same as it was for Lake Trout back in the 1980's - this rig is extremely effective!...and my lure of choice for this specie in this situation.

Having said that casting or trolling flies is also effective and may be the method of choice for other applications such as when the Salmon are in shallow freshwater further upstream and later in the season. Some Salmon were caught on streamer flies pulled along the surface just behind the boat. It would be difficult to apply the technique in fast shallow water. More experimentation is needed - maybe it or the smaller trout lures would work in the shallow situation as well. One comment I got from an Inuit man was 'are they available in bigger sizes?' My own view on this - although not tried yet and purely speculative - is that the larger profile herring would command as much attention from these
Salmon - but the hookup percentage would be lower. I did not have to replace a single anchovie due to being destroyed by a Salmon - the last one I had on must have caught 8-10 fish - and it is still in great shape and usable. So I taught those northern Atlantic Salmon how to bite your new lures and showed the system off to those who were there with me. Now to try for Arctic Char and northern Lake Trout and?...will need some more Rhys Davis teaser heads and more Baitrix artificials

Best regards,
Steve

Lunker Rainbows

Thanks for your samples of trout imitations. They worked better than all expectations, catching lunker rainbows 4 and 5 to 1 against all other lures I tried. The bait lasted for more than a dozen fish and had an irresistable roll in the Rhys Davis teaser head. I have already recommended your Baitrix Trout Specials to my friends. I have attached a couple pics of our last trip where we saw a couple rainbows over 10 lbs and many in the 4 to 8 lbs range.

Thanks again,

Whale Channel Spring Salmon

Hi Gordy,
Here's a picture of a 37 1/2 pound Spring Salmon caught May 25th at West Coast Resorts Whale Channel Lodge - it came in on a chartreaus Baitrix strip, not only this one, but 3 more over 20 pounds were taken on the same piece of strip.

Then we lost the one and only piece of strip we had to a big ling cod.

This strip is new to me this year though I have used your herring and anchoives with good success before, this stuff works super!

Keep your tip up!

There is nothing anecdotal about the information provided. This is a very serious situation.

Fish Farms, many of them foreign owned, are proven to be a major contributor to the decline in Wild Salmon stocks of all species throughout British Columbia and other regions. The politicians just don't seem to
grasp it ! They continue to support the expansion of Fish Farms. Why?

The wild Salmon are OUR fish. Elected officials are trusted to be the custodians of our wild resources, not major contributors to their demise. PLEASE..give your local representative a wake-up call and support this necesary initiative.

You may forward this message to whoever seems appropriate.

Thanks for your interest.

Fishing in Thasis

Gord,
When we were in Thasis the fishing was a little slow for the first three days but then the larger fish finally started coming in. We used the Baitrix products in conjunction with natural bait and found the results were equal. Good for you! I think your products are a GREAT substitute for natural bait and now with the bait shortage it should really take off! I'm looking forward to receiving samples of your new product (what is it?) and giving it a try.

Sincerely,
Jim Goerg, Publishing Editor, The Reel News

Kano Inlet

Gord,
I hope that your summer is going well.
Just to let you know that we did find some chinook and coho salmon that wanted to attack your Baitrix Anchovy. They worked quite well and impressed a number of skeptical guides during our visit to M.V. Salmon Seeker at Kano Inlet in the Queen Charlotte Islands. Definitely easy to use and very durable.

Many thanks for your generous sample of Baitrix products. I look forward to trying them out again.

Cheers,
Dave Wei

Point Defiance

Wanted to let you guys know that I have used your products and do something a little different with them. I cut plug them, put on some Herring Smelly Jelly, and drift mooch with them. I mostly fish Point Defiance in Tacoma and have caught 6 fish over 20# with your cut plugs.

Mark Gadsby

Prince of Wales

Ran out of bait while fishing off Prince of Wales in July so had your anchovies for back up. Had as good of luck with them as the brimed bait. Also was able to catch quite a few fish on same bait without having to rebait. Best were the black and the glow after some coloring. Used scent, both herring and anchovies. Caught springs, coho, halibut, and rockfish with them trolled behind flasher and on a teaser head. Do have a few pictures.

Nootka Springs

Thanks for Baitrix. Got two springs in the 25lb range on one last week at Nootka. They stand up well too. My boat played over 60 springs, landed 25. Only three under 20lb, but only two over 30 this trip. Had to change to 40lb leader from 30lb - lost 9 to busted leader and not at the knots. Terrific on the nice days.

Jim

Westport Chinook

I was fishing Westport Washington last week and the biggest fish on the boat, a 35 # and 28# chinook were caught using your Regular Herring which had been marked down the side with a blue marker. The other two rods on the boat were fishing fresh herring and hooked some fish but nothing like the Kings the Baitrix produced. That is why I just placed the order for 9 additional packages for my other fishing partners. Keep up the good work.

Alberta Northern Pike

I caught this Northern Pike in Alberta in open water, bank fishing with a hanger rig with a 2” bobber and a Baitrix Herring. No extra scent was added.

Arkansas Bass Fishing

I was at a FLW Bass Tournament this weekend and several fisherman were using your bait as a swim bait, and catching some very nice bass on it. I would very much like to get some to try for myself. I believe I would like to try the Herring, how do I get some? Thank you very much!
